The impact core team has made on my life

Hannah, high school senior

I am an active member of Core Team through the church. Core team has blessed me in so many ways that I would have never expected.

I joined Core my freshman year of highschool, mainly because my older sister told me to, and because I knew it was the only way to continue going to Extreme Faith Camp (See Abby’s story about Extreme Faith Camp here). I always knew my being on Core was for the younger kids and the main mission was serving them and leading the middle schoolers closer to Christ. However, I did not think it could have such an impact in my own faith life. In fact, I questioned not joining Core because I was worried about not having enough time for my personal relationship with God.

Sharing personal testimonies and leading small groups has motivated me and given me an unignorable desire to grow in my relationship with God.

I thought it would never give me a chance to grow; I was sorely mistaken. My faith has strengthened so much because of Core team from working with the middle schoolers and getting to know other members on Core. Not only has Core kept me in check throughout highschool, but leading events like FNLs, Summer Stretch, and Extreme Faith Camp has brought me so much closer to Christ. Sharing personal testimonies and leading small groups has motivated me and given me an unignorable desire to grow in my relationship with God. If someone would’ve told me my freshman year that leading a group of 6th grade girls would make me want to be a saint, I would’ve laughed. One needs a certain level of patience when leading small groups. I have realized that the only way to obtain genuine patience with crying middle school girls was through God.

Another time Core has helped me would be Prayer Team during Extreme Faith Camp, a time of prayer for a week in adoration completely dedicated the middle schoolers. Praying for the middle schoolers brought my relationship with God to a new level even though it wasn’t about me. My prayer life flourished; I care so deeply for the middle schoolers that I have a desire to pray for them. It also motivates me to pray for myself so I can help them in their faith life and be a role model for them.

Having relationships formed in the faith make a world of a difference when it comes to asking for help and talking about a bad day.

I would not be where I am today without Core team. The community we have is one that can’t be duplicated. I feel loved and accepted by everyone on Core team. Having relationships formed in the faith make a world of a difference when it comes to asking for help and talking about a bad day. I can always count on them for prayers and I hope they feel the same towards me. I am beyond happy that I answered the call to be on Core team and allowed it to change my life for the better.
