Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation

“Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Sealed & Sent…

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the third of the three sacraments of Christian Initiation (along with Baptism and Eucharist). In Confirmation, we receive a deepening of the Holy Spirit, just as the disciples received at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-11). It perfects baptismal grace, and seals us with the gift of the Holy Spirit to root us more firmly in Christ, and strengthen our bond with the Church. Confirmation imprints a permanent spiritual mark on the soul, setting us apart as Christian disciples. It enriches us with a special strength of the Holy Spirit and obliges us to our role in the mission of the Church, which is to proclaim the Gospel, or “good news,” of salvation to the world. Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit we are able enter into this mission and are sent forth to “go make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Q&A

How can I prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?

We invite our youth to engage in the parish community and take advantage of what we offer to help prepare to be “sealed & sent” in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Youth Ministry and Sacramental Preparation offerings pair together to provide opportunities for teens and their parents to accept the Gospel message, encounter Christ, and be formed for a life of Christian discipleship and mission.

Youth Ministry is not separate, but rather a vital part of Sacramental Preparation.

Are D Groups Part of Confirmation Preparation?

New in 2022, we will be separating the D Group Ministry from Confirmation Preparation. Instead, we invite our youth to actively engage in the age-appropriate offered youth ministry events. Teens who desire to join a Discipleship Group will be able to do so in the Spring of their 8th grade year (or thereafter).

what is alpha youth?

Alpha Youth is a ministry that will give teens a place to hear and discuss the Gospel message, find community, and grow in faith. We highly recommend that all 8th - 12th grade teens who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, engage in this ministry as their primary way of involvement in the life of the parish. Click here to learn more about Alpha Youth.

what are high school nights?

High School Nights are a great addition to the Confirmation Preparation year for teens in grades 9 - 12. Click here to learn more about High School Nights here.

Are there other ways to be involved?

At STMA Catholic Youth Ministry we offer a variety of events and ministries, such as; bible studies, catechism studies, discipleship groups, and more. We invite you to check out all that we offer and reach out to any of our staff members with questions.
